In Carolina Herrera's 2015 Fall Ready-to-Wear collection, each model wore a low ponytail wrapped with a silver piece of leather...

I was so struck by the modern update on the classic ponytail.

I decided to recreate the look!

First, you have to brush out all the knots from your hair and make sure it's really smooth. The hairstyle is easier to re-create on day old hair, or you can blow your hair out straight.

Next, to get rid of fly-aways, and re-create the slickness of the ponytail, run hair oil through your hair. Distribute the oil firstly through the lower part of your shaft, then run the rest through the hair closer to your roots.

Be careful with the amount of oil you use, it's important to avoid looking like a greasy mess!

Next brush your hair into a ponytail. Using a fine tooth comb for the front part will help you make it extra smooth.

Even though it seems easy creating a slick back ponytail can be pretty tricky. You might need to use a bit of gel to smooth everything out, and it may take a few tries (it certainly did for me!)

An amazing backstage trick that I learned is to spray a toothbrush with hairspray, and comb through to remove really small fly-aways.

I know it sounds really strange but I promise it works really well!

The last step is to take a piece of silver leather and wrap it around your ponytail and secure with a bobby pin (or you can tie it underneath the ponytail). I got the coated leather from Etsy.

If you want the wrapped portion to look extra neat, I recommend asking a friend for some help.

...and that's it! A modern update on a classic ponytail, inspired by the Carolina Herrera 2015 Fall Ready-to-Wear Show.
